What does Ekklesia mean?

What does Ekklesia mean?

Where does it talk about the Ekklesia in the Bible?

In Matthew 16, verses 13 thru 20, Jesus asked His disciples: Who do you say that I am? They answered Him with what they heard others saying. Then Jesus asked, "but who do you say the I am?" Peter answered, "You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God."

Jesus was pleased to hear Peter's answer, and I believed he smiled at Peter, because he was right. Jesus answered him and said, "Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah! For you have not come up with this on your own, but my Father who is in heaven has shown you. And from this day, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it".

What does Ekklesia mean?

In verse 18 of Matthew 16, when Jesus says, "...and on this rock I will build my church..."; the word church is translated from the original Greek word "ekklesia". Strong's Concordance defines it as "a calling out" or "an assembly".

So, upon this rock or this revelation, the revelation that Jesus is the Christ, He will build his church, the called out ones and the gates of hell will not prevail against them.

How does this apply to me?

If you are in Christ, meaning that you have invited Him into your heart and He lives in you, then you are His Ekklesia. You are His Called Out Ones. Your foundation is Jesus Christ himself; there’s nothing in all of existence that can destroy the foundation that you stand on.

He has called you out of the world's darkness and brought you into His marvelous light. You carry Him and His power everywhere you go. You now have the ability and confidence to carry out His Great Commission, which is to go into all of the world and preach the gospel, lay hands on the sick, raise the dead and cast out demons.

Nothing or no one on Earth nor in hell can stop you from accomplishing Heaven's purpose for your life. Why? Because you have made Jesus your foundation. You have made Him the rock on which you stand, and all other ground is sinking sand.

Conclusion

God has a great purpose and plan for your life; through Jesus, He made a way for you to accomplish it. You are set apart for His work; because Jesus is your rock, nothing can come and knock you over. The seas may rage and the storms may blow, but the ones who stand in Christ shall stand forever.

Give your life to Christ

If you are reading this and you're not sure if you're in Christ or maybe you once gave your life to Christ but you know you've strayed away from Him. I want to give you the opportunity now to give your life to Him. One prayer fits all. Please say these words:

Dear Lord Jesus, come into my heart. Forgive me of my sins. Wash me and cleanse me. Set me free. Jesus thank You that You died for me. I believe that You are risen from the dead and that You're coming back again for me. Fill me with the Holy Spirit. Give me a passion for the lost, a hunger for the things of God and a holy boldness to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ. I'm saved; I'm born again, I'm forgiven and I'm on my way to Heaven because I have Jesus in my heart.

As a minister of the gospel of Jesus Christ, I tell you today that all of your sins are forgiven. Always remember to run to God and not from God because He loves you and has a great plan for your life.
